FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST

jdr2.jpg

Dr Rutherford is a registered medical practitioner and an honorary clinical lecturer in pathology at the University of Manchester.  He has been a consultant forensic pathologist to the Home Office since 1992.  Previously he worked as a consultant histopathologist in a district general hospital including duties as head of department.  Prior to becoming a pathologist in 1979 he had seven years experience in clinical medicine, mainly in hospitals, but with some time spent as a family doctor in general practice.  His undergraduate qualifications are BSc (hons), MB ChB.  His higher postgraduate qualifications are FRCP (Edin), FRCPath and DMJ.

Of his career so far Dr Rutherford is most proud of having been captain of his University Judo team, winning the gold medal in psychiatry as an undergraduate, writing successful hospital pantomimes and winning the Manchester lazer quest championships in 1991 as part of a two man team with his son when his son was too young to be competing against big strapping twenty-odd year olds and he was too old to be doing it at all.
